Apparently, there was an anime about rally racing released in 1991.

Kinja'd!!!

I stumbled upon it while doing some mindless Youtube surfing. All of the sudden, I am watching hand drawn Ford Sierras and Lancia Integrales race across the screen. The name of the anime? Goddamn. Thats it, just Goddamn. Could not make this up if I tried.

I would not watch this for the plot. But the cars in it will surprise you. And for being hand drawn, the cars are pretty detailed. Was anyone else aware this existed? I can’t believe I found out about it just now. With a title like Goddamn, it is pretty hard to search for. It was difficult just to get a cover image. Google image search “Goddamn anime” and you get some... weird stuff.

Love this anime. COnvinced my school’s anime club to show it during a “bad but good” marathon. Apparently they liked it and appreciated the detail in the cars when I pointed out how accurate the designs and everything was to actual Group A rally cars, as well as the group B duel on the mountain.

Love the 80's-90's style animation.

That cover photo is a Celica All Trac Turbo! We had one of those until about a year ago. If the car is that easily identifiable, the artist is pretty good at what he does.

The driving sequences were pretty entertaining. Surprising they could use so many real company names like Marlboro and Recaro.
